Coffee free coffee

At Northern Wonder they make coffee from non-tropical ingredients, so without coffee beans. With their innovation they want to combat the deforestation of tropical rainforests, without having to compromise on the usual and beloved cup of coffee.

They work closely with Wageningen University & Research and leading food technology partners to find answers to their big question: which molecules are promising building blocks to imitate the characteristic coffee taste? They want to transform the coffee market: not better coffee, but coffee-free coffee that cannot be distinguished from the real thing. This way we can continue to enjoy our beloved coffee rituals, but without the aftertaste of deforestation.
